Lynn Adkins wins 2008 TRANSJAC.
It was a windy day at the 2008 TRANSJAC. We had gusts of up to 18mph and at times steady winds well above 15mph.
Even before the start some boats were caught by wayward puffs and during the race a few knock down and almost knock downs were seen.
An excellent start put John Kling and his Sonar into 1st place which he held in the struggle to the 1st mark set in A arm.
The winds were strong at this point and the two keel boats, John Kling - Sonar and Karen Hawkins - Capri 25 did well with Lynn Adkins
- C Scow KC 12 fighting the heavy winds to stay in between the two boats.
The downwind and reach portion of the next leg resulted in a separation of John Kling's Sonar and Lynn Adkins C Scow from the rest
of the fleet. Lynn Adkins played the west shore while John Kling sailed more in the center of the lake. This put Lynn into slightly
stronger winds which resulted in passing the Sonar about 200 yards from the Leggit cove entrance.
Heading up Liggett cove John Kling started to gain back on Lynn Adkins but after
rounding the mark the C Scow began to build a
lead that would eventually lead to a 29 second lead on corrected time and a first place. John Kling held off Tommy Heausler Sweet 16
345 by 1 minute and 24 seconds on corrected time for second.
