The Windmill is an open planing boat with main and jib, and is normally raced with a crew of two. Its unique construction puts the flotation along the sides, giving it a comfortable gunwale to sit on, yet eliminating the extra weight of a deck. The boat easily planes, and is easily handled by two people, not just while sailing, but while launching. The Windmill can be set up by one person in under 15 minutes.

The boat was originally wood, and many fine examples are available today. Modern Windmills are fiberglass. Plans are available to allow you to build a Windmill yourself. It is not a difficult boat to build, and should make a fun project.

Our fleet has been on Lake Jacomo since the early days of the club, and at one time numbered in excess of 20 boats. While our fleet is below that today, if all the Windmills in garages in Kansas City came out into the Sunlight, we would probably have 50 boats.

Call Hal Wood at 765-4418 for a lead on one of these boats.
